Is Kontra free?
Yes — the Free plan lets you send 3 invoices per month, create 1 contract, and save 1 client. No credit card required. When you're ready to send more, you can upgrade from /pricing.
Where does my client's payment go?
Directly to you. Kontra never holds your money. We render "Pay with..." buttons on your invoices that link straight to your Swish, PayPal, Revolut, Wise, or bank details. Your client clicks, pays you, done.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes, anytime, from Settings → Manage Subscription. You'll keep access to paid features until the end of your billing period. No questions asked.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings → Danger Zone → Delete account. Your data is permanently removed: invoices, contracts, clients, brand settings, payment methods, audit log. Any active subscription is cancelled immediately.
Where are my files stored?
On Supabase (EU region). Your data never leaves the EU. We're GDPR-compliant by design.
Do you have an API?
Not yet. If you'd find one useful, email us and tell us what you'd build with it.
What languages do you support?
The interface is in English. Invoices and contracts can be written in any language — Kontra doesn't translate the document content, only the chrome around it.
Who is Kontra for?
Content creators, UGC creators, influencers, photographers, videographers, designers, freelance developers — anyone who invoices clients for creative work. Kontra is especially useful if you deal with brand partnerships, usage rights licensing, or content contracts.
What currencies and taxes do you support?
You can invoice in SEK, EUR, USD, or GBP. VAT is auto-calculated for Swedish businesses — enter your org number and Kontra looks up your VAT registration. For non-Swedish users, you can set a custom tax rate or leave it at zero.
What happens when an invoice is overdue?
Kontra auto-calculates late fees based on Swedish interest law (8% APR + 60 SEK statutory reminder fee for SEK invoices). The late fee is shown on the public invoice page so your client sees it. You can also enable automatic payment reminders — Kontra emails your client on a schedule you control. Both features can be toggled off per invoice.
Can I export my data for my accountant?
Yes. Go to the Export page in your dashboard. Swedish users get SIE4 files (accepted by Bokio, Fortnox, Visma). EU users get SAF-T XML. Everyone gets CSV. There's also a monthly accountant export that generates a print-ready statement with summary totals, VAT breakdown, and line-by-line details.
How does contract signing work?
You create a contract in the dashboard, then send it. Your client gets an email with a unique link. They review the terms, draw their signature on-screen, and submit. Both parties get a signed PDF. The whole thing is tracked and audit-logged.
What are usage rights and why should I track them?
Usage rights define how long a brand can use your content — on which platforms, for how long, and for what purpose. When rights expire, that's a renewal opportunity. Kontra tracks expiry dates, alerts you when rights are about to lapse, and makes it easy to send a renewal invoice. Expired rights are money left on the table.
What is the deal pipeline?
A Kanban board that tracks your brand deals from first conversation to final payment. Deals move through stages automatically: when you send a contract, the deal advances; when the invoice is paid, it closes. You can also move deals manually. It gives you a bird's-eye view of your business pipeline.
Do you send emails to my clients?
Only when you trigger them. When you send an invoice, Kontra emails your client with a link to view and pay. Same for contracts — they get a signing link. If you enable payment reminders, those go out automatically on overdue invoices. You control which emails you receive in Settings → Notifications.
Can I customize how my invoices look?
Yes. Your logo, brand colors, business name, and address are applied to every invoice and contract automatically. Set them once in Settings → Brand, and they carry through everywhere — PDFs, emails, public links.
What's a rate card?
A public page where you list your services, packages, and pricing. Brands can visit it at your unique link (usekontra.com/r/your-name), see what you offer, and reach out. Think of it as your professional menu — no back-and-forth about rates.
Can I use Kontra on my phone?
Yes. Kontra is fully responsive. You can create invoices, sign contracts, check your dashboard, and manage settings from your phone. No app to install — it runs in your browser.
Is my data safe?
Your data is stored on Supabase in the EU (Frankfurt). Every database query goes through row-level security — you can only see your own data. All connections are encrypted. We don't sell or share your data with anyone.
